Our story began in 1867 and started quite small, namely as an institution for children and young people suffering from epilepsy. Pastor Friedrich von Bodelschwingh quickly took over management and turned the Bielefeld institution into a somewhat larger one, offering help in different and wide reaching ways. Today? The von Bodelschwingh Foundations Bethel are among the largest diaconal supporters in Europe.
The diversity of our fields of work is unique. Through the support of our many friends and sponsors, our areas of work include epilepsy treatment, assistance for those with disabilities, assistance for the elderly, youth welfare, support for people in particular social difficulty, work and professional rehabilitation, hospice work, therapy for those with autistic disorders or brain damage, psychiatry and assistance in acute care hospitals.
WE ARE THERE FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED OUR SUPPORT.
Together, we share a vision: Healthy or ill, old or young, disabled or not – we are sure that all people, in all of their diversity, can of course live, work and learn together. We believe that every person offers something unique, something very special, and belongs to our community – with all their strengths and all their weaknesses. Also, or perhaps especially, when many of these people are dependent on support to be able to lead a decent life, led as independently as possible.
Our work is led by this vision. Every day. For us, this is our motivation and orientation. Guided by diaconal values, we are committed to charity. In Berlin. In Bielefeld and in over 280 other locations. Today, tomorrow and in the future. And us? We have almost 19,000 employees. Therefore, we can treat, support, train or advise more than 230,000 people every year. And we are happy to become wish fulfillers, strengtheners, obstacle overcomers, everyday heroes, effectors of change or messengers of joy.
